It’s a 70’s dream in this multi-leveled playground on Exmouth Market with SodaStream cocktails, Chicken Kievs, vinyl tables and a 2am basement party bar that’s set to an endless playlist of classic funky tunes. Coin Laundry’s the kind of place you get stuck in: come for an afternoon coffee and admin sesh (laptops welcome), stay to meet a mate for a homemade vermouth and before you know it you’re in the dimly-lit basement that looks like something you’d find in That 70s Show, minus the sad perms.
If you wanna do like BarChick get down the stairs and hit The Dipsy Doodle pinball machine (the money goes to Centrepoint charity) chill out on the leather sofa under the red neon and nibble on some cockle popcorn. Upstairs the vibe’s more chilled out restaurant, you’ll find heaps of bites boasting flavours that your nan’s all about like spag bol croquettes, cheese toasties and spam fritters. But if you want hearty, then you’re here for the Kiev. Just check the Kiev Counter projected on the TV set ‘cos that’ll tell you how many are left.
The drinks list is the same on both floors and it’s awesome with cocktails made using a load of homemade ingredients and a load of fresh house sodas that they recommend spiking; the pear and clove with a glug of dark rum is insane. When it comes time to calling it a night do digestif in style with a Grasshopper (Creme de menthe, mint, chocolate, cream & nutmeg): it’s retro, served in a coupe glass and it’s got a kick that’ll clear your senses right up. Exmouth Market’s basically media town so expect creative types in hats, marketing chat and interns gone wild. Rumour has it that they’ve even got their hands on a resident DJ from Fabric to spin on weekends. You in? Yeah you are.
