Upper Street has upped its game recently. This cocktail bar slash delicious fish restaurant already has a waitlist of the North London thirty-something crowd who know booze is best enjoyed with a side of lobster. It’s sophisticated but in an unpretentious way; come for a swanky dinner date, grab a drink at the bar with mates or keep it chilled with a weekend brunch, all good.

Galley ticks all the ‘modern cool’ boxes: palm print paper? Check. Aesop in the loo? Check. Purple broccoli served on a jaggedy ceramic plate you’ve probs eyed on Instagram? You know it. But what we’re most into is the killer gin list. They’re all about perfect serves so go long with a sprig of rosemary or get in a goblet full of frozen grapes... these rock as you can nibble them as snacks after, perfect if you don’t wanna shell out on lobster.

You’ll find BarChick in the bar in a prime people-watching window or getting in on the action by the open-kitchen if food’s on the cards (nb. it should be). If you can prize yourself away from the gin, the cocktails in the bar are awesome and the bartending duo behind it are fresh from getting high at Shoreditch’s Boundary. They know cool drinks. Sweet tooth? They’ll talk you into trying a creamy after-dinner concoction that comes served with a side of coco pops. Do it.
