BARCHICK SAYS

This epic building in Kings Cross is less parallel bars and more glossy cocktail bar... and we aren't complaining

This converted Grade II listed gymnasium bang outside Kings Cross St Pancras station is mega. Like, seriously mega. It's a huge 450 cover complex complete with a grand cafe, an epic outdoor terrace, a restaurant, killer bars and private dining spaces. Think triple height vaulted ceilings, a bit cathedral-like with its dark wood beams and large windows that let the light stream in. Wow. It was London’s first purpose-built gym which hosted indoor competitions back in the 19th century. Now it's used to host the likes of us. And its 10's all round.

Downstairs is more laid-back brasserie vibes, but the bar upstairs is pretty killer. No expense has been spared, it's a slick affair and the clientele are here to mix business with pleasure, your power suit will go down a treat.  You'll find BarChick on the mezzanine, next to the bar where you can get a full view of the buzzing dining room. This is a gymnasium after all, and people watching is our fave sport. When we rocked up, there was a gloriously extra floral installation curated by Moet & Chandon taking centre stage in the middle, commemorating the legend of couture fashion, Karl Lagerfeld. This place lends itself well to the attention-grabbing, and it doesn't stop at the decor.

Order from the Icons menu for cocktails that will have you reaching for your phone quicker than a teenager with a new Snapchat filter. Like the bar, the presentation is on a whole other level. We're talking insane glassware, gorgeous garnishes and dry ice that blankets the table.  They're legit works of liquid art, which is nicely on brand for the theme. The drinks are based on infamous pieces of art and iconic fashion designers; they've taken René Magritte’s classic painting, “This is not a pipe” and transformed into a smooth n' smokey whisky cocktail, served within a god damn glass pipe that you can pick up and puff on. Fans of Tom Ford's perfume 'Tobacco/Vanille' need to hit up the cocktail of the same name. It's rich, flavorful and hella aromatic with Bulleit bourbon, Leather/Vanilla liquor, Tobacco and Mapl. The rim of the glass (which arrives in a Stars In Their Eyes-style puff of smoke) is smeared with a lip conditioning layer of cacao butter.  Eau de parfect!
