From the sibling team behind Gymkhana comes a restaurant inspired by the roadside shacks of Sri Lanka. On the menu is the Sri Lankan breakfast of champions - hoppers (think bowl-shaped pancakes) fermented with rice batter and coconut milk. There are also rice and roast dishes, plus some seriously tasty bar snacks. More importantly (we think), the cocktails focus on traditional Sri Lankan genever and arrack, and there's also Sri Lankan Lion lager and stout.
This place has some well-deserved popularity, and with long queues of eager diners at the best of times and a country-wide lockdown at the worst, sometimes dining can be tricky. No dramas here though, 'cos the Hoppers crew have rolled with the times and launched their brand new Cash & Kari store, a kick-ass online retail platform offering up meal kits, restaurant-blend curry powders, Sri Lankan spices, ready-to-drink cocktails, and Hoppers’ own-brew beers. BOOM.
What we're most excited about is their Kari-home kits, a mix of ready-to-eat and cook-at-home dishes, including lamb kothu (£30 for 2-3 people) made with banana chips; mutton rolls with Sri Lankan hot sauce; tempered yoghurt; and choco-coco biskut pudding. Hot damn!
