As you disappear inside the columned façade of Les Deux Salons, you step right out of Covent Garden, and straight into a bustling Parisian brasserie, et voila… bienvenue! In fact it’s so on the money that you half expect old school literary figures to be idly draining Sazeracs at the bar, but you’re more likely to find BarChick, she’s known to be a bit of a Francophile at times.

Set in a big space over two floors, it still retains an intimate vibe with antique mirrors, welcoming leather banquettes, soft lighting and a pretty tiled floor. This is the kind of place to set the world to rights over bottles of French wine and delicious, robust French cooking.

Sit at the impressive copper bar and chat to the sweet and immaculately presented bartenders, or take your date to an armchair and get cosy as you watch Covent Garden potter past. In settings this amorous it would be almost rude to neglect the oysters. On the drinks front these guys do the classics very well. Get stuck into Margaritas, Sours and Negronis, and don’t be afraid to let them get adventurous, they turned our drink blue and we didn’t complain. When in Paris… right?
