Mishkin's is Russell Norman and Richard Beatty's latest staple of uber-cool eat and drinkeries; it's a twist on a New York Jewish deli with the welcome addition of some delicious cocktails.
The chopped chicken liver with schmaltzed radish, oxtail cholent or Reuben on rye with pastrami may come from the 17th century, but the cocktails are 1930s contemporary. They are mostly gin based: the Last Word (gin, lime, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur), the London Cup for 2 and the Cynar Gin Fizz are BarChick's favourites. For those of you on a budget, the Tesco's gin is surprisingly decent and a steal at 2 quid.
Try to sit at the bar or, even better, get the booth in the back with the service bell - perfect for a romantic evening. Nothing leads to love like latkes, smoked eel, apple sauce and sour cream washed down with Diamond Fizz. BarChick hears there were three successful marriage proposals in the booth in Mishkin's first week. Matchmaker, matchmaker.....
Ps. Book baby book, this place is pretty busy!
