When you hear the guy behind one of London’s best bars, Happiness Forgets, has opened a little bistro above said cocktail basement, you get hungry - and damn excited. Having said he’d ‘never do food’, Ali Burgess only went and pulled one of the hottest little restaurants of 2016 out of the bag and it’s still every bit as sweet as we hoped.
Petit Pois is on the right side of small (seats 25), and is all exposed bricks, rough marble topped tables, leather booths and low hanging pendants. Slick but not try hard. Leave your cocktail hat in the basement ‘cos up here it’s all about fine wines that pair up perfectly with exactly the kind of food you’d expect from a Parisian bistro in Hoxton; crispy fries, duck confit and creamy gratin dauphinois. It’s all good but if you leave without trying the chocolate mousse you’ve let yourself, and BarChick down. It's definitely on its way to becoming a classic.
When you’re done stumble down the stairs into Happiness Forgets for a nightcap, and there you have it: the perfect night out. Nice one boys.
