The Red Room at The Connaught

The secret bar with an ode to rouge

Maybe we're nosey, or maybe we just know that the best things are always hidden beyond a velvet curtain, but we can never resist taking a peep behind one when we have the chance. If you're the same, and you happen to be balling it up in the Champagne Room at The Connaught, you're gonna love what you find chilling behind the one at the back of this already impressive room.

This is where you'll find The Red Room. No, this isn't Christian Grey's sex room (get your head out of the gutter, this is a fancy place). This is the first new bar to open in the Mayfair hotel in a decade. Follow the mosaic runway, hand-cut and laid by Italian craftsmen, to the dazzling pink onyx bar. This is where you'll find BarChick getting friendly with the capsule collection of six cocktails, each inspired by the bar's epic wine selection and developed in tune with the changing seasons.

This lavish, ombre scarlet snug has the feel of a collector’s living room. Above the red-flecked marble fireplace is where Louise Bourgeois' ‘I Am Rouge’ piece hangs, and flanking it are two vivid stained-glass windows by Brian Clarke. Amongst the soothing palette of soft creams, blush pinks and pearl blues you'll find more dramatic artistic splashes of red, with jewel-like lamps and antique pendants. With plenty of intimate corners and cosy nooks, this place has fifth date written all over it.
