East Dulwich can be a place to hang, and The Actress has taken a traditional suburban pub vibe and made it cooler. The décor is bright and modern, with some interesting artwork (including a pointillist mural created using a spray can of a hot chick which takes up the back wall) to lighten the mood on a cold winter's day. More importantly though, the drinks list is extensive, with a wide selection of cask beers, local ciders, interesting wines and over 50 different whiskeys, reportedly one of the largest south of the river - even if, after all that, the waiter recommended a pint of Estrella.

Booze aside, the real selling point of The Actress is the food, with pizzas straight from their wood-burning oven using local produce, these bad boys steal the show. BarChick particularly enjoyed their Middle Eastern inspired spiced lamb with smokey aubergine, kinda like a late night manaeesh in Beirut. So head down hungry, ignore the waiter's suggestions over a drink and check out one of the reasons why East Dulwich is making waves in the suburbs.
