Piccadilly Circus is about as hectic as it gets, so discovering The Grill Room hidden within Café Royale is like some kind of 1800’s oasis.
This place was established in 1865, and not much has changed, it has all sorts of awesome heritage: Oscar Wilde, David Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor have all sashayed over the immaculately polished parquet floor before you. But screw the history lesson; look around you, this place does all the talking. It's gold, very gold, with lots of mirrors and a killer ceiling. It's insane, with great live jazz (nightly from 7pm) or get down to the house DJ (Thursday - Saturday from 9pm). If you've dressed up for the night you might actually think you're on the Titanic (minus the motion sickness).
The Grill Room is all things fancy: the food, the Champagne, the cocktails, the service. We drank Champagne and Old Fashioneds and tripped out on the ceiling whilst eating reassuringly expensive fishy starters. If you really want to show off then knock yourself out on the foie gras burger. This place ain't cheap, but since the room is dripping in gold leaf what the hell did you expect?
Take a hot date and they'll be putty in your hands. In fact anyone will be. Go get some.
Ps. the dress code is ‘celebrative and sophisticated’, we’re not sure what that means but it probably implies no sneakers.
