The Holborn Whippet

BARCHICK SAYS

Once known for all the hustle and excitement of an evening at the dogs, The Whippet is a victory for independent pubs in the Holborn and Bloomsbury area. Dodge the Wetherspoons and get down like it’s the 1800s all over again.

Bare bricks, tiles, wooden stools and framed pictures of whippets are dotted about, and light spills in through big windows. The simple layout is easy to relax in and crowds are in high spirits, here to enjoy a decent pint. A wide array of craft beer and cider is displayed on the central bar which initially looks like a chimney (touché), and the chalkboard above the taps talks percentages and how much cash you’ll be parting with.

Staff here mainly know their shiz, although it’s probably not easy to keep up with 15 constantly changing pumps. Expect the likes of the Kernel, Tiny Rebel and Rothaus as these guys stick to stocking breweries that brew in smaller batches. Basically get beered up then snack on bratwursts, pizza, fries and crisps… don’t mind if we do.
