BarChick loves a bit of Brixton Village. It's the kind of place you wander into at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and emerge, blinking and swaying, sometime around midnight, intent on continuing the party in Phonox (or, if it's one of those nights, Dogstar). You can basically have a ton of fun by rolling from one vendor to the next. Specific meals don't count here. It's all about one long sesh of grazing and swigging to your heart's content.
One must-stop spot is The Wine Parlour. If you're a Brixton local (or just a wine-hoe) then you'll have heard of it already. There's another outpost on Vining Street just down the road. The newer village location is a bit more casual to the eye, but just as serious about the bottles lining the walls. This is a wine lover's paradise.
Whatever you do, don't arrive expecting a NZ Sav Blanc or a standard Merlot. The owner, Chix, is fiercely passionate about showing off lesser-known grapes from small family-run vineyards. The aim is to surprise, delight, and educate. So if you're up for an adventure, you've come to the right place. Ask any of the insanely knowledgable staff (or better yet, Chix herself), and even if you've got straight-up sommelier credentials then we bet they find you something you've not tried before.
BarChick got comfy at one of the tall barrel-tables outside and enjoyed a dry but fruity rosé that was on the deeper side of pink. Usually the colour would've put us off, but hey, when you've got an expert to guide you then all sorts of fun happens. Even better, this is a bottle shop too. Your wine rack is about to get amped up, baby.
