La Bicicleta Café

BARCHICK SAYS

These days, the ultimate hipster accessory is the fixie, so it was only a matter of time before bars sprung up to cater to these thirsty riders. Located in the heart of Malasaña, La Bicicleta Café was the first to crop up on the cycle café block, and they’re still riding high in the hipster hierarchy.

This is a bike lovers’ Mecca. They have repair tools available, workbenches, lectures and screenings of bike movies. It’s also a workspace with free wifi, accessible plugs to recharge your gizmos and secure drawers to store them in when you need a fag. The kitchen cooks up healthy, organic food too.

But we’re not here to get our bike geek on. It’s buzzing all day and has an urban industrial look with lots of concrete and graffiti to match the indie rock soundtrack. Mac Book-wielding aspiring writers and creative types drink fancy coffee by day and by night it attracts boys in Vans with backward truckers and the girls that flock to them, knocking back artisan beer.

BarChick cracked up at the hot young things that rode their ‘decorational’ bikes around the bar and proceeded to snort lines of sugar off the tables, leaving the occasional phallic piece of graffiti on the walls, before riding off into the night. We’re sure this isn’t all La Bicicleta has to offer, but even if it is, we’ll be back.
