BARCHICK SAYS

This is like the tropical play den of a wizened Miami gangster on acid. We don’t know where to start with what we love most: the leopard-print pool table, the weird sh*t in the fish tank, the Rockefeller Oysters, or the down’n’out divey party vibes that keep this place mental from early evening to dawn.

In East Chinatown, it’s on a grimy strip opposite Seward Park. Early hours, the locals convene for a beer and shot at the bar, and tell stories about how their grandma once gave a bl*w j*b to Clark Gable… sure. Later on a mixed crowd come marching in for frozen Daiquiris washed down with the famous Mac n Cheese, and to party. Groups spill out from the red leatherette booths; people start dancing to the old school rock tunes; the queue for the bathroom is almost as bad as the bathroom itself, and there’s a certain rainforest/sweaty mustiness, but we still love it.

Try to work out what the raised platform/disco phone booth/party time machine is all about and you win a prize. Oh, and happy hour runs all day from 12.30pm to 7.30pm but hell, it’s so cheap we’re happy enough already.
