PJ Clarke's

BARCHICK SAYS

This place is such a NY landmark that it even featured in an episode of Mad Men (Season 1, episode 8). 130 year old PJ Clarke's saloon has recently had a makeover, but the jukebox, out-of-order cigarette machine and chalkboard menus still remain. It's as close to 'Cheers' as you'll find - happy hour sees it jam-packed with a suited crowd of regulars, sit with them at the bar and there's absolutely no way you'll leave without making some new friends.

Don't go in here looking for fancy lychee Martinis or anything like that, this place is old school, doing killer classic drinks, beer and wine. Sit in the back room and order their bacon cheeseburger with a side of the best damn sweet potato fries in town. The kitchen closes at 3am, perfect for that one last beer and a sneaky burger on your way home/to the after party.

Oh yeah, that urn you see next to the bar, it's filled with the ashes of an incredibly loyal (former) regular customer. OK we love this place, but maybe not quite as much as he did....
