The Shanty

BARCHICK SAYS

Located next to a fire station (hello boys), The Shanty is anything but what it says on the tin. With a slick, professional air, combined with paired-down decor - think the usual Brookyn suspects of exposed brick and concrete - this place will reel you in and blow you away. These guys know their booze, and we would hope so seeing as they make the stuff. Through the glass wall, you can see the big copper and steel still of the New York Distilling Company, and while The Shanty is an excellent platform to try their fabulous spirits, it’s a bona fide bar in its own right, rather than just a tasting room.

Want to get your geek on with a tour of the distillery? That’s totally on the cards. They do tours between 3pm and 5pm where you can see how they make their liquid goodness. The Dorothy Parker Gin is slightly sweet while their Navy Gin is a whopping 140 proof and will knock you out. We went for the Hello Trouble, which had our name all over it with Dorothy Parker Gin, Amaro Meletti, Burlesque Bitters, grapefruit and an absinthe rinse.
