The first time we checked out Union Pool we went on a Margarita marathon during the very happy, happy hour (five bucks a pop). Cue questionable games of how-many-people-can-you-fit-in-a-photo-booth and some even more questionable photos later; you get the picture (literally).
Obviously, we had to return cos based on that night it was the best bar, like, ever. We spent the afternoon watching bands play under the pagoda in the sunshine, fueling ourselves on tacos between sets from the resident El Diablo taco truck, before partying ourselves into another stupor. So yeh, basically it’s a winner.
This used to be a pool supply store (hence the name), and the main bar area kinda feels like a leisure center from the fifties. It’s reminiscent of somewhere you could drink a milkshake in one of the leather banquettes before taking a dip, but the only thing you can dip into is the decent cocktail list or fridge of cheap beers (we’re not complaining).
Through the bar is the big back patio with lots of benches, fire pits in the winter for the smokers and pretty ponds in the summer for the.... swimmers? Beyond that is a variety style music hall hosting awesome bands most nights of the week. Cue a bunch of Williamsburg hipsters in residence seven days a week, but they’re a friendly bunch, so squeeze on in.
