Bastille is one of the most historic parts of Paris and it’s where you’ll find Café Moderne. You’ll need to walk about 10 minutes from the Place de la Bastille to reach your destination, look out for the monochrome sign and gorgeous wooden paneled doors.
Once inside you’ll feel like you’re in New York and Paris all at once. Think low lighting, patterned floor and a big skylight. Strike up a conversation with owner and bartender Mido Ahmed, he used to work in New York and it seems like he’s brought some back with him.
Not only does Café Moderne sell banging bevs, but the food’s also pretty decent too. You don’t have to drink to eat but you’d be mad not to; get burgers, meatballs and small plates from €6, plus brunch on Sunday. Drinks wise Brooklyn lager is available on tap but BarChick fell in love with the little Martini tray that comes with a mini shaker and garnishes so you can DIY it, touché.
