Another bar from the unstoppable ECC trio, this time there’s steak involved, uh hello! You have two options at this speakeasy-style cocktail bar: either dine at Le Beef Club upstairs (they nabbed Tim Wilson from the Hawksmoor in London to design the menu), or cut straight to the chase and enter through the black unmarked door to the left of the restaurant. If the beef proves irresistible, be warned there are no cocktails served in the restaurant, just a Bible of wine options, so we’re not complaining.

Velvet sofas, dark corners and particularly cool toilettes await those who tumble down the spiral staircase to Le Ballroom. There are only 8 cocktails on the list, but you won’t get bored. We loved the spicy Concombre Fumant featuring tequila, mescal, egg white and cucumber juice, which got us nicely tipsy and provided one of our five a day, win-win. Come on Sunday for live music, and anytime for cosy encounters, as this place gets busy. That’s not to say they’re not ready for it though - there’s a whole bar out the back devoted to overflow, mise en place at its finest.
