The Bye & Bye

BARCHICK SAYS

At first glance this looks like a dive bar, feels like a dive bar, but certainly doesn’t smell like one and, just to mix things up completely, serves vegan food. The Bye and Bye, older sister to Southeast’s Sweet Hereafter, is a total gem for reeling you in and surprising you with just how much awesomeness a random little bar can dish out.

There is an outside space, which wins bonus points for being dog friendly, and is great for when the weather is nice. Inside, between strange and wonderful murals, you’ve got pictures of Evel Knievel and a few other dashing men watching your back as you sip the time away. Their drinks list keeps things fresh with lots of unique twists, many served up in Mason jars. We loved Lefty’s Prayer, made with house-infused beetroot tequila, rosemary syrup and fresh lime, served up with a salt rim - sweet, savory and just a bit earthy.

What they’re really known for, although always in slightly hushed tones, is their food. Yeah, it’s vegan, but it is damn tasty. With a late night menu, this is where to hit up at the end of the night when you suddenly realise you’ve skipped supper and are now starving. And besides, it’s almost healthy. So get another drink, tuck into some dressed-up tofu and hang out till closing.
