Bustling and authentic Bar do Mineiro is nestled deep in the neighborhood of Santa Teresa. This place is very popular with backpackers and locals who drink beer till the early hours and don’t mind overflowing onto the street. The décor is a definite homage to great music and personalities, on the white tiled walls hang 60’s and 70’s music photography and other memorabilia among antique bowls, pans and random artifacts. Watch out for the obscure looking puppets of Michael Jackson, Elvis and Bob hanging up behind the bar, they scared the sh*t out of BarChick.
The tipple of choice here is beer or cachaca with over 30 different brands to choose from. Go sweet with a local drink called Batida de Gengibre (cachaca, condensed milk and ginger) or share a long neck beer with friends. This family run bar serves an eclectic mix of Minas Gerais style food. Tuck into oxtail stew or a pasteis de feijao (pastry filled with black beans) if you like your snacks on the heavier side of hearty. Rock up with good intentions but be prepared to stand outside or queue for a table, as this is a popular spot.
