Bar dos Descasados

BARCHICK SAYS

Nestled in the Santa Teresa Hills between broken down colonial buildings stands the Santa Teresa Hotel. It’s a beautiful 19th Century mansion whose old slave quarters have been converted into what has recently been voted Rio’s “most romantic bar” by the famous local magazine Veja Rio. Wander through the elegantly decorated hotel past their tropical landscape gardens and stylish pool and under the arches you’ll find bar Dos Descasados.

Rustic exposed brickwork and old-school red and white parquet tiled flooring host a number of dark wooden day beds and sofas (both indoors and out so you can escape the rain if necessary). This place is f*cking romantic and has an epic view of the city. BarChick listened to chilled out Bossa Nova and birds tweeting whilst nestled up to her hot Brazilian date sipping on a Mango Cardamom Martini made with mango puree, cardamom and Absolut vodka. Not feeling so fruity? Try the Whiskey Old Fashioned, choose from a deluxe or malt whiskey.

For snacks, they don't disappoint, go for chips de baroa and wash it down with the Yellow Fruits cocktail. Or if you’re not feeling the cocktails, live like a local and tuck into some cachaça collection or choose something from their fine wines. The best time to come is just before sunset (kodak), but watch out, loads of people know that so it can get busy.
