If you wanna dance until your feet fall off then head to Lapa. And if you are heading to Lapa you have to see Rio Scenarium in all its three floor epic 19th Century glory.

Each floor plays host to a different flavour of music and crowd, with the ground floor dominated by live forró bands and couples dancing, and the new annex warehouse upstairs pumps out house and samba from various DJs and is filled with sweaty bodies. Multi-coloured walls are covered in more than 10,000 antiques, film props and random pieces from all ages, like a giant flea market with good music and vibes.

During the day it’s also worth a visit, engage your inner intellect with exhibitions and poetry readings, plus the food is banging too. With a capacity of 2,000 it’s hard to believe that some nights the queue to get in goes around the block.
