Salotto 42 is one of life’s real overachievers, the clue is in the bougainvillaea covering the entrance. Open in both winter and summer unlike many bars in Rome, and since there’s no outdoor seating we say head here on a rainy, hung-over day, rather than on a scorcher. It’s seriously laid back.

They do a banging breakfast and super healthy smoothies (we say celery, spinach, kiwi and pear), afternoon tea, homemade cake and ridiculously good cocktails.
BarChick loved the Swedish Julep with bourbon, maple syrup, grapefruit and lime and our hot date had the homemade Moscow Mule with their own ginger beer. Both packed a punch which is just what we looking for. Make sure you read the menu cover to cover and learn about Hadrian's temple over the road.
