Fry Bistro

BARCHICK SAYS

Forget about white tablecloths and arsy waiters - this ain’t your average bistro. Inside an unassuming doorway, four flights of stairs bring you out onto this small roof terrace restaurant/bar. A wave of sweet relief hits when you realise a) thank God there’s a breeze, b) you have, indisputably, the best view in Club Street without the inconvenience of wasted shipbrokers vomiting on your shoes, and c) there are no more stairs to climb.

Fry Bistro is friendly, relaxed and fun. They make a powerful Martini and about fifteen different types of Mojito, all of which make you funnier and better looking. Kris, the manager, is a great host, and the small kitchen’s speciality of macaroni cheese with various twists is not as bizarre as it sounds (try the chili-crab for maximum points). The music is quiet enough to talk over but loud enough to realise that it’s just as nonchalantly cool as the bar itself. So far, this is Club Street’s best kept secret: take a date and position your chair strategically with the Singapore skyline behind you and you can be sure he/she will think you totally have a finger on the pulse of this bangin’ city.
