BarChick’s been crushing hard on 121BC since it started life as a bottle-o (that's Aussie for a liquor store, by the way) and loves the place even more now they’ve added a wine bar to the mix. The industrially chic space is dominated by a long bar that runs down the centre of the room and a giant lighting fixture that wouldn’t look out of place on a spaceship. Selling largely natural and biodynamic Italian wine these guys are thinking about your hangover and your party, nice. The bar itself isn’t exactly massive but what it lacks in size it makes up for in enthusiasm, the shop manager/sommelier’s passion is infectious and you’ll be a convert in no time.
The staff will recommend you share a few plates: try the grilled mortadella with soft Spanish onions, the figs with buffalo mozzarella or if you’re a meat lover like BarChick go big on the sticky pork ribs. Wash it down with the big hitting Barbera d'Asti Igiea from Piemonte. If nothing on the wine list takes your fancy, then saunter into their bottle shop and pick a whole bottle to have by yourself at the bar for a small corkage fee. Crack it open at the bar and if your date’s going well buy another to finish at home, wink wink.
