The Victoria Brown

BARCHICK SAYS

A massive mural of HRH covers the entrance to this smart compact coffee shop with the vibe of a NY bakery and good food too. Come here by day for Lattente Coffee and the BBQ bondiola sandwich. But we’re not here for tea and cake or even their Full Monty brunch. Behind a fake brick wall at the back is the secret entrance to a killer cocktail bar. Now we’re talking.

Quick history lesson: after Queen Vic’s husband Prince Albert died, she took solace in her servant John Brown. History lesson over. We’re not sure what they’re channeling with the name, but it’s some kinda royal, rocking, heavy drinking ode to Victoria… in short it’s totally awesome. Just check out the mechanical works behind the bar.

With Frank’s Ezequiel Rodriguez manning the stick, expect big things. Use the flavour compass to navigate the menu, or put yourself in their capable (and pretty hot) hands. We like La Provence, a mix of gin, honey, ginger, lemon and adorable lavenders flowers. Sweet tooth? Try the U Got me Baby with macerated vodka, marshmallows, fruits and falernum.
