This is like the oyster lovers’ mecca of Canada. They’ve got oysters that most of you will have never heard of, and they talk about them like a French sommelier in a vineyard. “Hints of freshly cut grass and sweet cream” …sure. We just say they taste damn good.

It looks like an east coast bar with lots of dark wood and booths to squeeze into. It has been around forever, so while you get your fair share of foodie tourists, locals hang out too and everyone seems to be smiling – the sort of place you would get a high five when you walk in if you spent enough time.

The Captain of this ship is Patrick McMurray, aka the World Oyster Shucking Champion. This man is like a machine with a shucker (he even designed his own line), and can get these slippery babies open in less than a second (actually, his record is 38 in a minute). Sit at the bar and get him chatting. He’s a charmer, and will whip you up an oyster shooter. He made BarChick one all of her own in honour of her English roots, the Supersonic Shooter – gin, tonic, a squeeze of lemon and lime and an oyster. Down in one, obvs.
