I currently work as a consultant but I used to work at Evans & Peel Detective Agency.
I have a number of cocktail bars that I love, Purl, the Whistling Shop, Montgomery Place, but my favorite is a little ‘Speakeasy’ through a door in the back of Kings Kebab next door to Evans & Peel. They serve drinks until 6am and have Sky, you can eat poppadoms and drink all night while watching corny 80s action films.
My favorite drink is a Boulevardier. It’s like a bourbon negroni with extra bourbon.
I’m not too much of a badass. The coolest thing I’ve done is probably co-writing an article for Michael Ruhlman with our executive chef Michael Harrison or making a cocktail for Pippa Middleton.
I’ve never done it on a bar, and with my fiancé being 8 months pregnant I probably won’t be anytime soon.
After I get back from paternity leave I’ll be opening our next venue, Kench & Bibesy and once it’s running smoothly I’ll split my time between K&B and E&P. I’d also like write about bars and cocktails. I don’t know if I’d be allowed to be a Bar Chicklet, maybe a Bar Chico?
I can’t think of a good chat up line. The worst is probably showing a girl two fingers and saying “Do you know where I could put these?”
I’ve never made or drank a Sex on the Beach and I don’t think I even know the recipe. I also have a cat that my fiancé named Tiki Max after a drink in the Diffords Guide.
If I was going to make you a cocktail, it would probably be the “Wobbly Journalist” 45mL G’Vine Nouaison infused with Poppy’s Preserves Seville Orange Marmalade, 15mL Profesore Vermouth, 15mL Dolin Dry Vermouth, 7.5mL lemon juice, 7.5mL Genepi La Flacon and 1 dash of Adam Elmegirab’s Bokers Bitters. It’s that wonderful combination of easy to drink and strong and serious
I like my Martini 6:1 with a drop of orange bitters and a twist. Chilled before it’s stirred. Usually with gin, but if it’s a nice enough vodka, I might be tempted.
As a child I wanted to be a Samurai, and I do get paid to use a number of different blades so it seems to have worked out well.
