Sumaiyah (Sim) Edwards

Who are you and what do you do? Tell us about yourself…

I am Sumaiyah (Sim) Edwards, Global Brand Ambassador for the World’s Most Awarded Gin, Beefeater! I spent most of my life in beautiful Cape Town and now live in London representing this awesome brand. I’ve been working in the wonderful world of hospitality since I was at the tender age of 18 years old! I’m also a personal trainer, fitness instructor and foodie. I love to travel and meet incredible people and talk all things gin and wellness! I also have an avocado obsession.

What’s the best thing about your job?

There are so many things but I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to meet such talented people all over the world and not only educate them but learn from them too. With that comes the opportunity to travel! I caught the travel bug at a young age as an expat child. I’ve visited 55 countries and have no intention of stopping there.

You can teleport to any bar in the world, where are you going?

Don’t make me answer this! There are just too many I love. If I am going back To South Africa I will find myself at Sin+Tax, a sexy little speakeasy with epic tunes, great staff and blood delicious cocktails. When in London, I’ll most likely teleport to either Happiness Forgets or Homeboy. Happiness Forgets; because it has everything you want, great vibe, music, staff, ambience and drinks. And Homeboy cause it feels like home, but better! Outside of that Franks in Sao Paulo is bloody brilliant and The Little Red Door is heaven on earth

Where’s your favourite city for bar-hopping?

London for sure. I am lucky enough to visit many cities however there is something special about London. There is an amazing pulse and your options are limitless, there are dozens of fantastic bars to satisfy your mood or the occasion. From savouring a martini at Dukes, to pioneering innovation at Lyaness to late-night margaritas at El Camion, you are never bored!

What’s your idea of a party?

It would begin with sundowners with a view of the ocean, followed by great cocktails (and some sneaky champagne) A combination of excellent company, great liquid and epic tunes and dancing late into the night. Preferably with some warm weather too!

Who in the industry would you love to rock up to the bar next to you?

Ooooh! I have to give two answers:

Dick Bradsell: I had the fortune of meeting Dick very briefly a few years ago and I was blown away by his warmth and charisma and always wished I had the chance to speak to him and learn more about his life and career (and find out who exactly he made that espresso martini for!)

Desmond Payne M.B.E: Why? Because it’s Desmond Bloody Payne!

What is your desert island bottle?

Beefeater 24! It’s delicate, elegant and complex.

What’s your failsafe cocktail?

Beefeater Dry & Lillet Blanc, 50:50 on the rocks with an orange twist. It is delicious, easy to make, perfect for any occasion and impossible to mess up!

What is your hangover cure?

Pizza, green juice, a run and then cuddles.
