BARCHICK SAYS

An unlikely hero, we’re in love with PimpShuei for all the wrong reasons. Located in a seriously random part of town, it’s a purple graffitied light that’ll lead you off an otherwise sleepy Mount Pleasant in Clerkenwell. You’ll need to squeeze past the cast of Hackers smoking in the street to get in, and this is only the beginning.

Enter London’s first Chop Socky bar; a trippy throwback to the Kung Fu movies of the 70s and 80s. Games consoles adorn the walls and trigger happy babes (BarChick, mainly) pose with pink plastic guns and fire blanks on the arcade games. The vintage TVs behind the bar playing black and white Chinese movies are subtitled for your convenience, and there’s a shrine to Chinatown’s finest £1 shops in the corner, golden waving cat anyone? Down Wong Island Ice Tea and shake it out to hip-hop classics with the other geeks you ignored at high school.

Owner Sipheng has years of bar experience and some seriously good party throwing skills, despite it’s odd location this place goes off. Drinks come with fortune cookies and lamps are made from Chinese take away cartons, if you’re looking for the antithesis to somewhere serious you’ll have a jokes time here.
