Barceloneta

BARCHICK SAYS

Miamians know their Spanish food. Tapas joints can be found all over the place from gas stations in trendy neighbourhoods to strip malls, but none are quite as good as Barceloneta. A sibling to the Pubbelly restaurants, this is part of a clique of Miami's cool kid spots, though Barceloneta is the best for both boozing and eating as it's the only one with a full bar too.

In the Sunset Harbour area of South Miami, it's got that look you know: exposed brick and chalkboard walls. But it's cosy and it works. The bathrooms are papered with stills from Spain's beloved filmmaker Almodovar, which makes for stylish (Penelope Cruz-focused) wallpaper. The menu of small plates is a fusion of awesome food from different parts of the world, but the boozy accompaniments are even better. The wine list is exhaustingly long but the best drinks are the "cocteles," especially the small menu of Gin & Tonics or the gazpacho sangria.

They play football games on the TVs, have happy hour specials and on Mondays all wine bottles are half off – just something to keep in mind.
