BARCHICK SAYS

Where better for a bar than on top of the city's smartest boutique hotel? This bar and roof terrace couldn't be much more charming if it tried. Transporting you back to the Ottoman era when Lawrence of Arabia roamed these lands, it's old-fashioned in a wonderful way. As you feel yourself sink into the luxurious sofas and armchairs which fill the room, vintage music plays in the background and you can gaze across the city below. Soft, intricately decorated carpets and Persian rugs cover the floor while service is attentive and slick. Up above, the roof terrace, replete with swimming pool, makes this an even better option in the summer, with wicker chairs it’s the perfect place to sip a cocktail whilst gazing out across the Mediterranean and listening to the call to prayer.

It may not be the cheapest – at all – but there aren't many better places to relax in an otherwise constantly hectic city. In keeping with the feeling you've been taken back in time, life Seems to move more slowly up here and, even if you want to spend the whole afternoon nursing a solitary cappuccino or glass of wine, you're made to feel more than welcome.
