Located in the newly popular Neukölln district, Ä bar is favoured by the hot young things who’ve transformed this area into the hub of creativity for which it is now renowned. It’s a sort of self-service bar situated within a large room, which would probably be considered a pub if the building was more conventional.
Strip lighting (like the kind you had at school) and barred windows give this place a kind of downtrodden feel, something about the mismatching furniture and industrial, rigid room makes everything here seem temporary, like some kinda trendy crisis center.
Beer is really the only bottle to be seen clutching; go for wine at the risk of being judged as too fancy to be hanging in this hood. Crowds of cool kids sporting ponytails and ill groomed facial hair chill on any battered sofa they can find. The dress code is vintage jumpers and cords, DMs or old New Balance kicks. Glam down, forget everything your mother taught you about hygiene and don’t look too enthusiastic about life if you want to make friends and enjoy this joint.
