Bohnengold

BARCHICK SAYS

This place considers itself a bit of a nightclub, but don’t let that put you off. Really it’s nothing more than a wicked bar leading through to a lively club room at the rear of the building. Contrast in concrete and warmth make it slightly more unusual than other flea-market chic bars in Berlin, something about it reminds BarChick of a really smoky gastro-pub, somewhere in Notting Hill perhaps.

Lit with candles and low, industrial looking black lamps that dangle 10ft from the high ceilings to reach just above your table, Bohnengold is certainly a visual treat. If you’re not absorbing the heat from the furnace-style open fire then you’ll be feeling it from the saucy crowd. All the boys look like they know their way around InDesign and wear beanies and vintage jumpers, just how BarChick likes ‘em. We didn’t see many girls in here at all, so sisters, pile on in for rich pickings. You’re welcome.

The cocktail list, (that hides inside a leather bound book) consists mainly of classics, we went for an Amaretto Sour and a slightly confused Bloody Mary (they were missing half the ingredients) but still managed to have an excellent time, until we could handle the smoke no more and staggered outside for air.
