MEATliquor Brighton

BARCHICK SAYS

The whole world’s gone burger bar crazy including Brighton with more burger joints than you can shake a burger bun at. There’s BBQ Shack, Troll's Pantry, Burger Bros and Brighton Burger fighting it out to satisfy your juicy junk food needs, and now, into this melee marches MEATliquor, bringing their London game to town and causing a bit of a stir.

MEATliquor Brighton feels more club than restaurant, adorned with loud neon wallpaper and glowing signs throughout. Simply put, this is meat American-style and it is good. The real treats are the reasonably priced sides: there’s a lotta shrimp, the wings are the best you can get this side of the Atlantic and the fried pickles are a game changer. Burgers are rare and start at £6.50 not going too far north after that. It’s a big menu with a lot of choice, but portions are not State-sized, so don't order to share.

It's obvious from the name that whiskey takes precedence over Buds - beer selection is small with nothing on tap, but who cares, they do Bourbon Coke Floats, which will keep a date sweet. We lost count pretty quickly exactly how many whiskeys were available, from £4 Irish right up to American 61.7% £17.50 William Larue Weller (35ml), but there are lots. With an impressive cocktail menu to boot, this place gets our burger vote.
