Drosophyla

BARCHICK SAYS

An absolute favourite amongst the city’s slickers, this place moved from Belo Horizonte to São Paulo in 2002. Lovingly put together by its Brazilian owner and her Kiwi husband who named it after a fruit fly, Drosophyla is full of soul.

With only a modest sign outside this place doesn’t shout, it doesn’t need to, once inside you’ll love it as much as the locals do. Cabinets are filled with souvenirs collected from all over the world by the owners and random posters and photos covering the terracotta walls are complimented by smooth, fresh lighting.

Check out the crazy red toilets covered in bizarre plates and shrines on your way to the huge star-lit, oriental garden. Here you’ll find another, more sophisticated looking bar boasting impressive Brazilian/New Zealand artwork and taxidermy.

When it comes to booze the list is experimental and handwritten, adorable. We drank the Basil Caipirinha which was pretty special and the Diabolique (Ketel One vodka, passion fruit, red Curacao and chilies), it was, well… boom.
