Another classy bar from Quinary owners Charlene Dawes and Antonio Lai, Origin has focused, as the name suggests, on one of BarChick’s very favourite tipples; gin. Before Origin, to get our hands on good ol’ mother’s ruin we had to suffice with the usual meagre bar selection, but Origin gets fancy with the classic spirit. We’re talking 12 homemade gin infusions with flavours from grapefruit to basil and all sorts of culinary equipment in use, from a rotary evaporator to a vacuum.

The surge in small gin distillers around the world has inspired mixologists such as Lai to experiment and push the boundaries of distinctive gin-based cocktails. We don’t say this lightly, but they’re pretty close to perfection with the simple yet oh so vital G&T, but equally Lai gets creative with cocktails such as the KGB - a Kyoho grapes Martini served in a miniature tea bubble bath. We like it. If gin’s not your thing, they do as good a classic cocktail as you’ll get in this town, but equally, what you doing here if it’s not?
