Kill Your Idol

BARCHICK SAYS

Bruce Lee, spacemen and house music aren’t things normally strung together in a sentence, let alone a bar. Stroll past the main drag of Española Way, and you’ll stumble upon the unassuming entrance to one of our favourite South Beach bars. Not cool in that Miami glam way though – this is like the anti-Miami.

We were introduced to this little gem after meeting some new friends over a beer (or five), and adopted their local for our own. Adorning the walls of this long corridor of a bar are life-sized models of the famous Kung Fu star, a Jaws shark and other kitsch throwbacks, including a talking deer trophy, which acts as a PA for the bar staff. Nice. There’s graffiti in the toilets, a 70s pinball machine, board games and it’s smoker-friendly (indoors).

Every night of the week, they rock out some classic throwbacks whether it’s old school house music from talented local DJs, or eighties anthems. They’ve got reasonably priced drinks and a decent bottled beer selection. Be prepared to wake up in the morning with a headache, a few locals’ numbers on the back of your hand and some 90s tune stuck in your head.
