Talk about a plot twist. Days before Dandelyan was named World's Best Bar at the 50 Best Bar awards in 2019, the team announced they were closing to focus on a new project which would crank things up a notch - that's some Alanis Morisette sh*t right there. Dandelyan served its last Nitrate Manhattan in March 2019, and after a Renée Zellweger-worthy facelift, it reemerged, 10 days later, as Lyaness: the same, but totally different.
Some things didn't change, like the Sea Containers location. And obvs it kept all the characteristics of one of Mr Lyan's epic joints. That green marble bar is still there overlooking the river, alongside a striking blue and grey colour scheme, and the drinks served across it are still tear-up-the-rulebook insane. The team didn't go with a theme, or revamped classics, or stick with anything tried and tested. In fact, you've probably never tried the ingredients the Ancestral Cookbook menu is built around.
Thunder Mushroom, Tree Caramel, Death Bitters: these might sound like characters from the next Marvel movie, but they're each a composite of ingredients designed to enhance one central flavour or idea, and you'll find each one used in three bangin' cocktails. Try the ingredients on their own (you can order sample sizes), then go all in on one of the bar team's recommendations.
Another thing that didn't change? This place just keeps racking up the awards. Case in point: the shiny World's Best Bar trophy it took home at Tales of the Cocktail 2022. POW.
