There's something about a restaurant beginning life at POP Brixton that basically guarantees it's gonna be a hit. A bit like how winning X Factor used to secure a Christmas Number 1, if your eatery was birthed at the shipping container jungle of SW2, you know you're destined for great things. That's what's happened with Smoke & Salt. This week they opened the doors to their brand new bricks & mortar site in Tooting. It's rustic, it's chic & now there are 4 walls. Boom!
Their cooking is and always has been about modern dining and seasonal produce cooked using ancient techniques. Yeah, smoking is one of them. They're also partial to a pickle and killer with curing. The already epic and varied menu has expanded along with their capacity. Much like the industrial, slick vibe of POP with exposed piping and filament lightbulbs, they've kept the crowd-pleasers, including a small but mighty menu of cocktails. If you like 'em firey, the Ginger Negroni is the POW your mouth deserves. And when it comes to the grub, we challenge you to find a better bread and whipped butter starter anywhere in London; and the Chimichurri New Potatoes with Beef Heart will forever make our own heart sing.
