The Blind Barber

BARCHICK SAYS

Don’t be fooled when you walk into the authentic New York barbershop and see dashing men having a shave ($50 + free drink... it’s all very Sweeny Todd). Just keep walking, that’s it, open that heavy door and boom, there we have it; a trip back to a modern-day 20s saloon.

Damn, can these boys mix a good drink! Whether or not you fancy getting adventurous with a hair cut, it's definitely worth heading outta your cocktail comfort zone here. When BarChick swung along we made the acquaintance of The Savage Detective. This character ain't playing around - it's a marriage of mezcal, orange cream citrate, mole bitters and IPA among other things. Fierce.

If you want to appreciate that drink, get here early, because this place keeps going strong until 4am when this mixologist heaven turns into a giant mixer of shoulder-to-shoulder intoxicated partygoers - a self-proclaimed ‘lounge mash up’. Enjoy the music, enjoy the masses and enjoy the sweat - most likely you’re leaving with someone’s number tonight. It all feels a little fratastic (but not quite Murray Hill) with a bit of hipster thrown in (although not quite Bushwick). The clientele are easy on the eye, and quite frankly the novelty of walking through the barbershop lasts longer than expected.

NB. Check out their other venue in Brooklyn too (524 Lorimer).
