The Turf Tavern

BARCHICK SAYS

This is iconic Oxford drinking at its very best. With The Bodleian Library behind you and The Radcliffe to your right, go under the bridge and down the hidden alleyway. Right a bit, left a bit until you come across a whole load of old barrels, cue The Turf Tavern.

It’s a rabbit warren of little rooms and you can really feel the history hidden in its walls, and they’ve kindly thought of everything, there’s even a no-smoking section in the beer garden. Get drinks, stay inside and settle into a cosy corner or take them outside and keep warm by the wicked iron fire holders. We roasted marshmallows on sticks whilst eavesdropping on some mad conversation about firing pistols. Some of the students in here make Downton sound like Eastenders.

Whole afternoons/evenings disappear in minutes in here, so we recommend you order some of their pub grub otherwise you might not remember leaving (and you definitely won’t find your way out).
