Freni e Frizzioni is always busy. With hot young Romans spilling out into the courtyard outside and free aperitivos, not to mention the banging cocktails – we can see why this bar has earned its reputation as one of the best places in Rome to begin your night. Choose your cocktail and head straight for the till in the corner where one of the (fit) bartenders will hand over a ticket for your cocktail. Then get in line for the bar – this place can get mega busy (hence why the bartenders don’t handle cash). Sit inside/outside/on the wall… wherever you sit, you're here to people watch.

BarChick chose the El Julep de Los Gringos (when in Rome gringo) with gin, vermouth bianco, grapefruit, maraschino and vanilla and having eyed up the huge selection of bitters on the bar, couldn’t help also sinking a Martinez with genever, vermouth rosso, bitters and Biancosarti (whatever that is).

The food’s not much to shout about but that’s not why you’re here, is it?
