Niji Caffe

BARCHICK SAYS

Il Niji is named after the first word of a Buddhist prayer meaning from now to the future, and we think it’s bang on. Having opened in summer 2013, Niji will undoubtedly be around forever. Tucked away down an unlit cobbled street, it’s the perfect place to sweep a date off their feet.

Expect trendy young Romans sitting at the mismatched-but-tidy living room furniture by the fireplace, and some of Rome’s hottest bartenders hanging at the bar – you know you’re in a great bar when there’s a bartender drinking there. The décor is kinda macho/sweet, with some ugly portraits hanging out on pastel coloured walls alongside some cute furniture with hot sometimes-tattooed staff. Sounds bananas but who cares, the real magic here is behind the bar.

The bitters are all homemade (lovingly of course) and the cocktails just perfect. You should probably try them all but if you’re in a rush and don’t have time to read the menu, try the Delicious No 6 with fresh pineapple, tequila, niji shrub (rhododendron – trust us), Grand Marnier and lime. Trust us.
