BARCHICK SAYS

This is a firm French Quarter favourite and for good reason. Firstly, badass bar chef Abigail Deirdre Gullo is one of our favourite bar keeps in town. Ask her what’s brewing in the barrel behind the bar or for a taste of her latest batch cocktail, she’s always upping the ante of the already awesome cocktails and will shoot the sh*t with you while she’s mixing up something amazing. Think distinctive herb garnishes and nods to New Orleans’ heritage.

The food is just as good and comes in the form of fancy and wonderfully creative bar snacks: yellowfin tuna cones with avocado ice cream and sweet potato beignets. It’s all damn tasty, and a perfect conversation starter.

They call themselves a modern Creole saloon, but the space is sleeker and swankier than most New Orleans’ drinking holes (located in the W Hotel, it’s another venture from the famous Commander’s Family of Restaurants and cost over $3milion). The refined dining area is set to a backdrop of gold illuminated apothecary bottles and the bar top is granite. The indoor ‘garden’ is perfect for big groups with self-service beer taps and Napa Technology wine-dispensing machines. That’ll sort you out when the bar gets crowded.
