Papa Gede’s Bar

BARCHICK SAYS

We love the voodoo-tiki-witchdoctor theme here as much as the burly cocktail menu, but the main reason to make a beeline for this small bar (down a cobbled lane off Kent Street) is the vibes. The team behind Papa Gede’s (that’s the voodoo spirit of lust and humour, if you didn’t know) have pulled off the atmosphere of a friendly neighbourhood joint, right in the heart of the city.

The drinks are bangin’, from long, tropical tiki options to strong & straight up hard hitters, including our personal favourite, the Divine Intervention (absinthe, apple and passion fruit). When it comes to spirits (of the non-voodoo persuasion) Papa Gede’s gets even more interesting, as far-flung friends and nomad associates bring in rare bottles from around the world for one-off menu appearances. They also have fantastic standard house selections. Get chatting to the staff, who’ll guide you to a new favourite drink, then rock out to the bluesy rootsy tunes.
