The Rummer Hotel

BARCHICK SAYS

Don’t try and book a room here (like us) it’s not actually a hotel, although Elizabeth I did actually stay here when passing through, so if you’re into your history then come and get geeky. Alternatively, if rum is more your thing then come and drink, you are in the right place.

The large mirrored bar is incredibly well stocked with over 400 bottles of booze, 100 of which are rum, we stuck to what they did best and were impressed with their offerings. The Sailor’s Gold made with El Dorado 12yr & Overproof rums, Velvet Felermum, pineapple juice, lime & bitters was snappy and the 3 Star Buck with rum, lime and homemade Plantation Velvet Falernum infused with coffee beans, lavender, cloves and orris root was punchy, but both were delicious. The music is good and the vibe is relaxed fun.

If it’s lunch/afternoon tea/dinner you’re here for then it’s the perfect place, the menu is seasonal, fresh and delicious. When it’s cold, warm up by the large open fireplace, keep track of time with the grandfather clock and buy some art off the walls. Too bad it’s not a hotel as you might not want to leave.
