You had us at "the biggest tequila selection in Toronto". Sacrifice your liver to the tequila gods at this temple to Mexican spirits. The back bar looks like an illuminated stained glass window, except in the place of holy virgin statues are bottles of tequila.
But this isn’t one of those tequila bars full of kitsch Mexicana, cacti and sloppy drunks. The bare bulbs, brick walls and contemporary photography keep it stripped back and refined though it’s less hipster and more classic, like the awesome tunes being played from bluegrass on Wednesdays to live jazz on weekends. The heated back patio is a great spot looking out over the city's old fire escapes.
They’ve got one of the cities hottest bartenders Megan Jones mixing up some damn fine drinks. You’re not going to be getting plain ol’ salt and lime with a shot of Jose Cuervo. The juices are freshly squeezed and the tequila flights are served with homemade sangrita. Get the staff talking and they’ll guide you through the cocktail list, or do as this BarChick did and get stuck into some tasting. Our mouth went numb and our night went wayward.
