When the Dubai Mall takes its toll on us, we skip next door to Calabar on level 5 of the Address Downtown Hotel. The Latin-inspired lounge bar gives great view for a sun downer drink or few, looking out over the Burj Khalifa (aka the tallest building in the world) and the waterfront promenade.

Calabar is all about the high-end clientele, so make space on that credit card if you're up for a night of heavy drinking. Or just hit it up during happy hour (6-8pm every evening).  The signature South American Calabar Cooler (Sagatiba Pura, Cachaca, cranberry juice, passion fruit, pink grapefruit and orgeat) went down a treat as the Latin soul music sent the sun down. Hungry? We feasted on the addictive dynamite rolls: sushi coated in tempura batter, deep fried. Who’s counting calories anyway?

Seriously swanky inside, the dark wooden bar stools give you a bird’s eye view for perfect people-watching across the bar at the business types finding an excuse to spank the company card. Better yet, nab a space on one of the over-sized beanbags along the outdoor palm tree-lined terrace - cue hardcore relaxation.
